OpenAI for Singapore Partnership Announcement

OpenAI has partnered with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) to launch "OpenAI for Singapore," an initiative backed by over S$300 million to support the nation's National AI strategy. This partnership establishes OpenAI's first Applied AI Lab outside the United States, focusing on the deployment of frontier AI, the cultivation of local technical talent, and the expansion of AI access across the Singaporean economy.

Establishment of the Applied AI Lab in Singapore

OpenAI is establishing its first international Applied AI Lab in Singapore to serve as a global hub for Forward-Deployed Engineers. This lab will create more than 200 Singapore-based technical roles over the next few years.

Forward-Deployed Engineers are tasked with bridging the gap between frontier research and real-world application, working directly with organizations to solve complex problems and unlock value. The lab's activities will align with Singapore's AI Mission priorities, specifically targeting the following sectors:

• Public service
• Finance
• Healthcare
• Digital infrastructure

AI Talent Development and Educational Initiatives

OpenAI for Singapore includes a comprehensive strategy to build local AI skills through collaborations with the Ministry of Education, GovTech, and other ecosystem partners. Key initiatives include:

• Educational Tools: Developing AI-enabled learning tools and use cases, including interactive support for Mother Tongue language learning.
• Educator Support: Establishing a Singapore chapter of the OpenAI Academy and hosting Codex for Teachers hackathons.
• Technical Training: Launching a Forward-Deployed Engineer training programme to develop local deployment expertise.
• Workforce Integration: Participating in the National AI Impact Programme to enhance AI capabilities across the technology workforce using Codex.

Expanding AI Access for SMEs and Startups

To ensure AI benefits reach all levels of the economy, OpenAI is collaborating with local partners to support small businesses and new ventures. These efforts focus on practical adoption and operational improvement through:

• Startup Support: Exploring accelerator programmes specifically for AI-native startups.
• Small Business Enablement: Collaborating on workshops designed for micro-entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to improve customer service and general operations.
