OpenAI for Ireland Initiative

OpenAI has launched "OpenAI for Ireland," a strategic initiative designed to help Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), founders, and young builders leverage artificial intelligence to drive growth and innovation. The program is a collaboration between OpenAI, the Irish Government, Dogpatch Labs, and Patch.

SME Growth and the 'SME Booster' Programme

To accelerate the growth of SMEs, OpenAI and the Department for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment will launch the "SME Booster" programme in 2026. This initiative provides national hands-on AI skills training to help businesses reduce costs and improve productivity through frontier AI technology, live workshops, and real-time mentoring.

Complementing the booster program, free online training will be available via the OpenAI Academy, supplemented by specialized AI literacy training.

Support for Early-Stage AI Startups

OpenAI has partnered with Dogpatch Labs, Ireland's leading startup hub and home of the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) Accelerator, to support early-stage founders and entrepreneurs. This partnership focuses on:

  • Integration: Helping founders integrate AI into their products and workflows.
  • Practical Application: Providing hands-on sessions and workshops.
  • Expert Access: Connecting Irish startups with OpenAI's tools and technical experts to build AI products for global markets.

Empowering Young Builders

OpenAI has entered a three-year partnership with Patch, a non-profit supporting founders aged 16 to 21. This collaboration aims to expand Patch's Summer programme, fellowships, finance grants, and mentoring opportunities, enabling young technologists to learn to code, prototype, and develop early-stage AI products.

Strategic Context and Government Alignment

The initiative aligns with the Irish Government's broader digital goals, including the Digital Public Services Plan 2030 and the Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Public Service. Ireland will also host the EU AI Summit during its EU Council Presidency in 2026.

OpenAI's Presence in Ireland

OpenAI's commitment to the country is reinforced by its European headquarters in Dublin, which currently employs over 50 staff members across governance, privacy engineering, safety, go-to-market (GTM), and legal functions. The company intends to continue investing in and growing its presence to expand AI adoption across Ireland.
