Google DeepMind and Singapore National Partnership for AI
Google DeepMind and Singapore National Partnership for AI
Google DeepMind has launched a national partnership with the Singapore Government to apply frontier AI to healthcare, life sciences, education, and workforce development. This collaboration aims to strengthen Singapore's National AI Strategy by responsibly deploying AI at scale to drive economic growth and public benefit, with the potential to create an additional S$3.3 billion (US$2.5 billion) in economic value through accelerated R&D by 2040.
Healthcare and Life Sciences Advancements
Google DeepMind is collaborating with local experts and public health clusters to integrate frontier AI into medical care and scientific research:
- AI Co-Clinician Research: The partnership explores the "triadic care" model, where AI agents support patients throughout their care journeys under the clinical authority of a physician. These systems provide information based on scientific literature and clinical guidelines to augment a doctor's expertise.
- Pandemic Preparedness: In collaboration with Google.org, Google DeepMind is utilizing tools like AlphaFold and Google Earth to accelerate the understanding of infectious disease outbreaks across Southeast Asia. This effort is supported by a $7 million funding contribution from Google.org to the Philanthropy Asia Alliance’s Health for Human Potential coalition.
- Inclusive Technology: A Gemma-powered running assistant is being developed for blind and low vision athletes. Developed in partnership with SG Enable, the tool uses spatial reasoning for real-time environmental understanding, allowing athletes to run independently without human guides.
- Scientific Discovery: Google DeepMind is partnering with the National Research Foundation to train local researchers on agentic AI for science tools, such as Hypothesis Generation built with Co-Scientist, for biomedical applications.
Education and Workforce Development
To support the transition to an AI-driven economy, Google DeepMind is providing Gemini for Education to all educators from primary schools to junior colleges. This initiative includes training on pedagogically grounded AI tools to assist teachers in lesson planning and tailoring course materials, freeing up more time for direct instruction. Google DeepMind continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Education to enhance AI capabilities through educator training and upskilling programs.
Sustainability and Climate Innovation
Google DeepMind is launching the "Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet" in the Asia-Pacific region. This program provides expert mentorship and tailored support to startups, research teams, and nonprofits using frontier AI to address environmental challenges in energy, water, and agriculture.
Responsible AI and Safety Benchmarking
To ensure AI deployment respects local nuances, Google DeepMind is collaborating with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and MLCommons to research multimodal and multilingual safety benchmarks. This research focuses on the safe and responsible deployment of AI that accounts for local languages and cultures.
