Three Core Commitments for AI Education Access

Anthropic is implementing three specific initiatives to scale AI education across the United States:

$1 Million Investment in K-12 Cybersecurity

Anthropic is providing $1 million over three years to fund PicoCTF, a hands-on cybersecurity education program from Carnegie Mellon University. The program targets middle and high school students, specifically those from underserved communities, to teach critical problem-solving and cybersecurity skills necessary for the AI era.

Support for the Presidential AI Challenge

Anthropic is supporting the White House's Presidential AI Challenge. This national competition encourages students, educators, mentors, and community teams to develop AI-powered solutions to solve local community problems.

Creative Commons AI Fluency Curriculum

Anthropic is developing a comprehensive AI Fluency curriculum for K-12 and higher education instructors. To ensure equitable access regardless of school resources, the curriculum is released under a Creative Commons license, allowing anyone to use, modify, and share the materials. The curriculum is designed to be compatible with any AI system.

AI Integration in Educational Platforms and Institutions

Anthropic's Claude model is currently integrated into several large-scale education platforms and academic institutions:

  • MagicSchool: A K-12 platform serving 3 million educators across every U.S. school district with over 100 million AI engagements.
  • Amira Learning: A K-12 reading technology platform that uses Claude for individualized, conversational learning to improve reading comprehension.
  • Solvely.ai: An academic companion used by over 5 million students across 120+ countries for math and writing assistance.
  • Higher Education: Claude for Education serves over 100,000 students and faculty, including a fully AI-integrated curriculum at USF Law and adoption across 13 campuses at Northeastern. Additionally, Claude Builder Clubs are launching in over 60 U.S. universities in Fall 2025 to help students build startups and community tools.

Evidence-Based Development and Usage Patterns

Anthropic grounds its education tools in research by analyzing actual usage patterns. Analysis of over one million university student conversations and 74,000 educator conversations revealed the following:

  • Student Usage: University students primarily use AI for complex tasks, such as creating and analyzing, which account for 70% of usage.
  • Educator Usage: Educators most frequently use AI for curriculum development (57%) and for creating custom classroom tools via Claude Artifacts, such as grading rubrics and interactive simulations.

These insights led to the development of "Learning Mode" in Claude, which is designed to emphasize critical thinking, and the structure of the AI Fluency curriculum to align with how educators integrate AI into their teaching.
