Anthropic Announces New Seoul Office to Expand Asia-Pacific Presence

Anthropic is opening a new office in Seoul in early 2026, marking its third location in the Asia-Pacific region following Tokyo and Bengaluru. This expansion is driven by a tenfold increase in run-rate revenue across Asia-Pacific over the past year and strong adoption of Claude in the Korean market.

Rapid Adoption of Claude and Claude Code in Korea

Korean users are among the most active Claude users globally, ranking in the top five for both total and per capita usage. The developer community in Korea has shown particularly high engagement with Claude Code, with active weekly users in the country growing sixfold over the last four months. Currently, a Korean software engineer holds the rank of the world's top Claude Code user.

On a broader regional scale, more than 25% of the Claude Code user base is located in Asia-Pacific countries.

Strategic Enterprise Partnerships in Korea

Korean enterprises are utilizing Claude to implement industry-specific AI deployments. Key examples include:

• Law&Company: Utilizes Claude to power an AI legal assistant that has nearly doubled lawyer efficiency rates while maintaining required accuracy levels.
• SK Telecom: Korea's largest telecommunications company used Claude to develop a custom AI customer service model that serves as a blueprint for the telco industry.

Anthropic reports that the number of large business accounts in Asia-Pacific—defined as customers representing over $100,000 in run-rate revenue—has grown eightfold in the past year.

Alignment with Korea's National AI Strategy

Anthropic's expansion into Seoul is designed to align with the Korean government's goal of becoming one of the world's top three hubs for AI development. The company intends to work with Korean government agencies, research institutions, and industry partners to advance the responsible development and deployment of AI.

According to CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei, the Seoul office will allow Anthropic to combine Claude's frontier capabilities and safeguards with Korea's technical ecosystem and institutions. Chief Commercial Officer Paul Smith added that a local presence will enable closer collaboration with sophisticated Korean enterprises and startups, particularly regarding complex coding and enterprise applications.
