Anthropic Expands Compute Capacity via SpaceX Partnership and Increases Claude Usage Limits

Anthropic has entered a partnership with SpaceX to substantially increase its compute capacity, resulting in immediate increases to usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API. This agreement provides Anthropic with access to the Colossus 1 data center, adding over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and 300 megawatts of capacity within the month.

Increased Usage Limits for Claude

Anthropic has implemented three immediate changes to improve the experience for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users:

• Claude Code Rate Limits: The five-hour rate limits for Claude Code have been doubled for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans.
• Peak Hours Access: The peak hours limit reduction for Claude Code has been removed for Pro and Max accounts.
• Claude Opus API Limits: API rate limits for Claude Opus models have been significantly increased.

Compute Infrastructure and Partnerships

Anthropic is utilizing the SpaceX Colossus 1 data center to expand its hardware footprint. This addition joins a broader strategy of diversifying compute resources across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and NVIDIA GPUs.

Key compute agreements include:

• SpaceX: Access to all compute capacity at Colossus 1 (300+ MW, 220,000+ NVIDIA GPUs).
• Amazon: An agreement for up to 5 GW, including nearly 1 GW of new capacity by the end of 2026.
• Google and Broadcom: A 5 GW agreement starting in 2027.
• Microsoft and NVIDIA: A strategic partnership providing $30 billion of Azure capacity.
• Fluidstack: A $50 billion investment in American AI infrastructure.

Additionally, Anthropic has expressed interest in partnering with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity.

International Expansion and Compliance

To meet data residency and compliance requirements for regulated industries—including healthcare, government, and financial services—Anthropic is expanding its infrastructure internationally. Through its collaboration with Amazon, the company is adding inference capacity in Europe and Asia.

Anthropic states that it selects international capacity locations based on two primary criteria:

1. Legal and Regulatory Frameworks: Partnering with democratic countries that support large-scale investments.
2. Supply Chain Security: Ensuring the security of the hardware, networking, and facilities upon which the compute depends.

Community and Environmental Commitments

Anthropic has committed to covering consumer electricity price increases in the United States caused by its data centers. The company is exploring ways to extend this commitment to new international jurisdictions and is partnering with local leaders to invest in the communities hosting its facilities.
