Analysis of de-identified user data shows that college-age individuals lead or tie for the lead in five of 11 major AI capabilities, including writing, analysis, creative work, coding, and learning. However, a significant gap remains between these mainstream users and power users.
Institutional support and structured access have proven effective in narrowing this gap. Data from ChatGPT Edu deployments indicates that students using the educational version outperform free users across nearly every analyzed capability and exhibit behavior closer to that of power users. The most significant improvements are observed in education, learning, analysis, and calculation tasks.
