OpenAI and MHESI Launch AI Accelerator for Thai Startups
OpenAI and Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) have launched the OpenAI x MHESI AI Accelerator to help Thai startups transition AI prototypes into scalable, real-world products. Accelerator Structure and Support
The OpenAI x MHESI AI Accelerator is an eight-week program designed to move startups from prototype to deployment through technical mentorship and resource provision. Each participating startup receives:
- Financial and Technical Resources: US$2,000 in API credits and access to OpenAI’s latest frontier models.
- Mentorship: One-on-one technical guidance and a dedicated mentor for the duration of the program.

During the accelerator, the team is focusing on evaluation methods and steering strategies for its real-time speech model, with the goal of deploying a pilot in a hospital’s live call flow by Demo Day.
Case Study: Curico
Curico is developing AI learning tools for children, families, and educators. Its goals for the program include piloting its platform in Bangkok Metropolitan Administration childcare centers, training over 200 teachers via an AI storybook workshop, testing AI-assisted grading at Chulalongkorn University, and growing its family learning platform to over 1,000 monthly active users.
Market Context and Growth in Thailand
Thailand has emerged as a significant hub for AI adoption. OpenAI internal data indicates that Thailand is among the top 20 countries globally for weekly active users of ChatGPT. Furthermore, since the start of 2026, weekly active usage of Codex in Thailand has grown more than 350-fold, also placing the country in the top 20 globally for Codex usage.
Program Outcomes and Implementation
The accelerator concludes with a Demo Day in Bangkok in November, where startups will present working products, user evidence, and evaluation findings to investors, government agencies, and potential customers. The objective is to establish a repeatable model for Thai founders to build trusted AI products that can be scaled globally.
