David Vélez is the founder, Chairman, and Global CEO of Nubank, the largest digital bank in Latin America. He founded the company in 2013 to simplify financial services and make them more transparent and accessible. Under his leadership, Nubank has grown to serve more than 135 million customers and is currently expanding into the United States after receiving conditional approval to establish a U.S. national bank.

Prior to Nubank, Vélez served as a partner at Sequoia Capital focusing on Latin America, and held roles in investment banking and growth equity at General Atlantic, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs. He also leads the philanthropic platform VélezReyes+ with his wife, Mariel Reyes, focusing on education and democratic governance in Latin America.

Robin Vince is the Chairman and CEO of BNY, a global financial services company with a history of over 240 years. Since becoming CEO in 2022, Vince has focused on simplifying BNY's operating model, accelerating investments in AI and data, and strengthening the company's culture of innovation.

Vince's professional background includes 26 years at Goldman Sachs, where he served as a partner, member of the Management Committee, and in several key leadership roles, including Chief Risk Officer, Treasurer, and CEO of Goldman Sachs International Bank. He also holds board positions at the Perelman Performing Arts Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Governance and Mission Alignment

Both new board members bring a commitment to philanthropy and nonprofit leadership in areas such as the arts, healthcare, and education. OpenAI states that these perspectives will strengthen the work of the Foundation, leveraging their experience in building institutions that expand economic opportunity and access.
