Infrastructure and Compute Expansion
To support the training and deployment of frontier models at global scale, OpenAI is expanding its infrastructure through strategic partnerships:
NVIDIA Collaboration
OpenAI is securing next-generation inference compute through an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA. This includes:
- Inference Capacity: 3 GW of dedicated inference capacity.
- Training Capacity: 2 GW of training on Vera Rubin systems.
- Existing Systems: These additions build upon the Hopper and Blackwell systems currently operating across CoreWeave, OCI, and Microsoft.
Amazon Partnership
OpenAI has entered into a multi-year strategic partnership with Amazon aimed at accelerating AI innovation for end consumers, startups, and enterprises.
Product Adoption and User Growth
OpenAI reports significant growth across its product ecosystem, signaling a transition from AI research to global daily use:
ChatGPT
ChatGPT has reached more than 900 million weekly active users and over 50 million consumer subscribers. The company noted that January and February 2026 are on track to be the largest months for new subscribers in its history.
Codex
Weekly Codex users have more than tripled since the start of the year, reaching 1.6 million users. This growth enables more individuals to automate and ship software that previously required full engineering teams.
Enterprise and Business Use
More than 9 million paying business users utilize ChatGPT for work. Enterprises and governments are leveraging the OpenAI platform and the Frontier platform to build and manage AI coworkers across operations, finance, sales, support, and engineering.
Strategic Objective
According to CEO Sam Altman, the objective of these partnerships is to ensure AI is more capable, reliable, and broadly useful. OpenAI asserts that leadership in the current phase of AI development depends on the ability to scale infrastructure rapidly to meet demand and convert that capacity into reliable products.
