What it solves
Remote AI is a desktop workbench designed to enhance the experience of using Codex CLI. It solves the problem of managing multiple AI accounts, tracking token usage, and providing a graphical user interface for AI-assisted programming without needing to manually edit configuration files.
How it works
The project provides a Tauri-based desktop application that acts as a management layer over Codex. It includes a graphical dialogue workspace (Codex GUI) for natural language programming tasks, a local proxy that allows hot-switching between official accounts and third-party model providers, and a backend system (Rust) to securely handle credentials. It can also be deployed as a headless server for remote access via a web interface or a mobile app for monitoring usage.
Who it’s for
It is aimed at developers who use Codex and want a more structured way to manage multiple AI accounts, integrate third-party LLM providers, and monitor their API costs and token consumption across different devices.
Highlights
- Codex GUI: A graphical workspace for project-based AI programming with real-time file diffs and command output.
- Multi-Account Management: Supports OAuth 2.0 login, importing
auth.jsonfiles, and automatic account switching based on usage limits. - Third-Party Provider Integration: Local proxy support for OpenAI-compatible APIs with hot-switching capabilities.
- Token Analytics: Detailed heatmaps and trend charts for token consumption and cost tracking.
- Cross-Device Sync: Optional synchronization with a self-hosted Go backend for remote management via web and mobile (Expo).
- Computer Use Plugin: Built-in capability for the AI to operate Windows and Mac applications.
