Grok in Google Workspace

xAI has introduced a free add-on that integrates Grok directly into Google Workspace, enabling users to access AI capabilities within Google Sheets, Slides, and Docs. This integration allows users to perform complex tasks such as data analysis, presentation building, and document drafting without leaving their active files.

Google Sheets Integration

Grok in Google Sheets enables automated data analysis and model management. The add-on allows users to ask questions about their spreadsheet data, with Grok providing answers based on the spreadsheet content and citing the specific cells used for those answers.

Beyond simple queries, Grok can:

• Write and fill formulas automatically.
• Insert charts into the sheet.
• Rerun scenarios when assumptions change, allowing users to update models without rebuilding them from scratch.

All changes made by Grok are treated as standard edits, meaning they can be checked and undone by the user.

Google Slides Integration

Grok in Google Slides automates the transition from outline to presentation. The tool can transform a text outline into a functional presentation by researching information from the web or X (formerly Twitter) and adding relevant diagrams or images.

Key capabilities include:

• Extending existing decks while maintaining the current theme.
• Rewriting slide titles to ensure each slide conveys a clear point.
• Generating regular, editable slides rather than static exports.

Google Docs Integration

Grok in Google Docs assists with structured drafting and content consistency. Grok can convert rough notes into structured drafts featuring formal headings and lists. It also provides in-place grammar corrections and ensures a consistent writing style across long documents.

When "connectors" are enabled, Grok can pull information from recent emails or other files stored in Google Drive to inform the content of the document.

Availability and Compatibility

Grok for Google Workspace is available as a free add-on via the Google Workspace Marketplace. A single installation covers all three supported applications: Sheets, Slides, and Docs.

In addition to Google Workspace, xAI has noted that Grok is also available for Microsoft 365, supporting Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
