OpenAI for Nonprofits Initiative
OpenAI has introduced OpenAI for Nonprofits, an initiative designed to make AI tools more accessible to nonprofit organizations. By providing discounted rates for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, OpenAI aims to help these organizations overcome common operational challenges, staffing shortages, and limited funding to increase their social impact.
Discounted Access to ChatGPT Plans
OpenAI for Nonprofits provides tiered pricing discounts for different organizational sizes. As of February 6, 2026, nonprofits can access up to a 75% discount on ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise.
Initial launch pricing included:
- ChatGPT Business (formerly ChatGPT Team): A 20% discount on monthly or annual plans.
- ChatGPT Enterprise: A 50% discount for larger nonprofits ready for large-scale deployment.
These discounted plans provide access to advanced models such as GPT-4o, custom GPTs, a dedicated collaborative workspace, administrative tools for team management, and enterprise-grade privacy and security standards.
Practical Applications for Nonprofits
Nonprofit organizations are utilizing ChatGPT to act as a force multiplier for their limited resources. Key use cases include:
Simplifying International Funding
Organizations like Serenas, a Brazilian nonprofit focused on ending violence against women and girls, use ChatGPT to unlock international funding. The tool is used to draft grant proposals, adapt content for donor templates, and translate materials between English and Portuguese.
Improving Client-Centered Care
The GLIDE Unconditional Legal Clinic employs ChatGPT to support pro-bono attorneys during walk-in meetings. Attorneys use the tool to review large quantities of documents on the spot and summarize key findings, allowing for more in-depth support within limited meeting windows.
Enhancing Data Analysis
THINK South Africa trains public health professionals to use ChatGPT for cleaning, analyzing, and interpreting health data. This enables decision-makers to allocate resources and prioritize activities more effectively, overcoming previous limitations in time and technical expertise.
Curating Educational Resources
Team4Tech, an impact accelerator, uses ChatGPT to perform initial evaluations of EdTech resources for their hub, which serves over 800 organizations and 39 million learners. ChatGPT flags areas of alignment or concern, which staff then review to conduct due diligence more efficiently.
Community and Support
To support the adoption of AI, OpenAI is building a nonprofit community on the OpenAI Forum to share best practices and and provide resources to help organizations maximize the utility of AI technology.
