xAI Grok Voice Integration with Vapi

xAI and Vapi have partnered to integrate Grok as the default engine for Vapi's 12 core voices. This integration brings improved naturalness and emotional range to the 2.5 million plus voice agents built on the Vapi platform.

Performance and Quality Benchmarks

Grok Voice has demonstrated superior performance in blind evaluations. In an independent blind evaluation conducted by Vapi, Grok took the #1 spot in a head-to-head arena comparing it against other providers.

Additionally, a side-by-side poll on X involving over 4,500 users showed a 50/50 split when users attempted to guess which voice was the Grok AI clone versus a human original, indicating a high level of human-like quality.

Availability for Vapi Developers

Developers using the Vapi platform can now select Grok to power their agents' text-to-speech (TTS) capabilities directly from a dropdown menu to achieve more emotionally resonant conversations.

Beyond the core voices, the following capabilities are now available in the Vapi Dashboard:

• Grok Speech-to-Text (STT): Now available for integration.
• Grok Text-to-Speech (TTS): Now available for integration.

Grok Voice API and Advanced Customization

For teams building outside of the Vapi platform or requiring advanced functionality, xAI provides the Grok Voice API. This API allows for direct integration into use cases such as narration, podcasts, advertising, and voiceovers.

The Grok Voice API offers advanced customization options, including custom voice cloning, and access to new voices.

Users can access the new default voices via the Vapi dashboard, where they are currently live. Alternatively, developers can integrate Grok Voice directly via the API for external applications.
