Rea Pulled Further Ahead as the Storytold Wave Thinned Out
From 12 to 19 October 2026, rea accelerated again and pulled further ahead of everything else on the list. Behind it, the storytold wave that filled half of last issue's top ten has thinned out: LightCraft, FilmCraft and PDFCraft have dropped off, and three of its projects remain. Two of those, PhotoCraft and WordCraft, are clean-room Rust rewrites of Photoshop and Word built so that every menu item is a command an agent can call; the third, ArtCraft, is a different product altogether, an IDE for AI image and video. Around them the list keeps returning to the same idea: software rebuilt or extended so an agent can operate it. A DeepSeek Harness plugin turns up on each board, and two entries are skills that teach an agent how to draw an explanation.
#1 morluto/rea — an MCP-based toolkit that enables AI agents to perform deep reverse engineering on binaries and applications without source code
+218,506 stars this week → 321,969 · rea star curve
2026-W41: +1,553 · 2026-W42: +101,495 · gaining faster each issue, 3 issues running · Earlier: 412 stars on 2026-09-20
Rea is for the moment you need to understand software you have no source for. It runs as an MCP server between an agent and the reverse-engineering tools a person would reach for, such as Ghidra or Hopper, so the model can ask a concrete question about a binary and get evidence back: pseudocode, assembly, the runtime behaviour behind a feature, and help reconstructing the code that is missing. Its gains are accelerating, and this week it added nearly twice as much as the other nine entries combined.
#2 storytold/photocraft — an open-source Rust reimplementation of Adobe Photoshop with native PSD support and AI-agent compatibility
+19,934 stars this week → 67,458 · photocraft star curve
2026-W42: +45,314 · down from the last issue · Earlier: 2,210 stars on 2026-10-06
PhotoCraft answers a narrower question than it first appears to: can you open, edit and save a layered PSD without a Photoshop subscription, and can a script do it as well as a person can? Its document is plain data and every action — a tool, a menu item, a dialog — is a named command, so the same edit can come from the GUI, a CLI, a JSON control channel or an MCP server. Rendering runs through a GPU compositor on wgpu. It is still the largest gainer of the three storytold projects, but it added well under half of what it did last issue; the climb is cooling rather than stopping.
#3 debpalash/VoiceStudio — an open-source desktop app for local voice cloning, voice design and multilingual speech generation
+16,589 stars this week → 75,298 · VoiceStudio star curve
Earlier: 33,189 stars on 2026-09-20
VoiceStudio is for anyone who wants voice cloning, dubbing and multilingual speech generation without sending audio to a cloud service. It is an Electron desktop app with a model manager and GPU acceleration, and it exposes a local API and MCP endpoint, so an agent can generate or reshape a voice the way it would call any other tool.
#4 Ebony-Vinyl/dsh-our-free-model — a zero-config plugin for DeepSeek Harness providing free unlimited access to frontier LLMs via a transparent gateway
+15,852 stars this week → 24,727 · dsh-our-free-model star curve
2026-W42: +7,140 · up from the last issue · Earlier: 1,735 stars on 2026-10-06
This one takes the API key out of the picture. It is a zero-config plugin for DeepSeek Harness that puts a local OpenAI-compatible endpoint in front of frontier models such as DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Kimi K3, with no registration. Its gain more than doubled on last issue. Free and unlimited is the whole pitch, and nothing in this data says who pays for the inference behind it, which is worth knowing before you point an agent at it. A second DeepSeek Harness plugin, dsh-ops, sits on the breakout board below.
#5 storytold/artcraft — an IDE for interactive AI image and video creation with precise 2D and 3D scene staging
+14,882 stars this week → 32,703 · artcraft star curve
2026-W42: +15,377 · much the same as last week · Earlier: 2,105 stars on 2026-09-21
ArtCraft is the storytold project that is not a rewrite. It goes after the unpredictability of prompting: you block out a scene first — 3D meshes, kitbashed parts, image layers, mannequins for pose and character identity, a camera position — and only then hand it to a generative model, chosen from its own catalogue of more than sixty or from providers such as Midjourney and Sora. Where PhotoCraft gives an agent a faithful copy of a tool people already know, ArtCraft argues that the prompt box was the wrong interface to begin with. It was the first of the three to take off, and this week it held almost exactly last issue's pace.
#6 wheresryan22/anatomy — an AI agent skill for creating interactive isometric figures that explain technical concepts through physical metaphors
+12,272 stars this week → 15,990 · anatomy star curve
Earlier: 3,718 stars on 2026-10-12
Anatomy is a Claude skill that changes how an agent explains a technical idea. Instead of a boxes-and-arrows diagram, it builds an interactive isometric figure around a physical metaphor for something like a cache or a pipeline, in SVG, WebGL or 3D, following a set of craft rules for how such a figure should be made. Its closest neighbour is diagram-design further down, and the two disagree about what a good explanation looks like.
#7 mattpocock/skills — a plug-in library of slash-command skills that bring engineering discipline to AI coding agents
+10,006 stars this week → 296,187 · skills star curve
2026-W41: +5,478 · 2026-W42: +10,019 · up and down across 3 issues, after a week away · Earlier: 265,813 stars on 2026-09-20
Skills packages engineering discipline as slash commands: spec writing, TDD and architecture review become commands such as /grill-me that Claude, Codex or Copilot can run on their own or when asked. On a board full of new arrivals it is the old hand, adding at almost exactly last issue's rate.
#8 storytold/wordcraft — an open-source Rust-based word processor with .docx compatibility and native AI agent integration
+8,524 stars this week → 14,385 · wordcraft star curve
2026-W42: +4,967 · up from the last issue · Earlier: 894 stars on 2026-10-09
WordCraft is PhotoCraft's twin, aimed at Microsoft Word instead of Photoshop. The architecture is the same idea — every user action has a command ID reachable from a CLI, a JSON channel or an MCP server — wrapped around a Rust word processor that reads and writes .docx, handles track changes, mail merge and citations, and runs its spelling and grammar checks offline. It is the youngest of the three and the only one whose gain grew on last issue, the one storytold project still moving against the ebb.
#9 cathrynlavery/diagram-design — an AI agent skill for generating brand-consistent editorial diagrams in static HTML and SVG
+7,367 stars this week → 57,673 · diagram-design star curve
Earlier: 41,414 stars on 2026-09-20
Diagram-design takes the opposite route to Anatomy: a library of editorial diagram templates plus a skill that turns a plain-language request into a brand-consistent static diagram in HTML or SVG. Anatomy invents a new figure for each idea; diagram-design keeps every figure inside a house style.
#10 MadsLorentzen/ai-job-search — an automated job application framework that manages searching, tailoring documents, and interview preparation using local agentic workflows
+6,994 stars this week → 53,091 · ai-job-search star curve
Earlier: 43,359 stars on 2026-09-20
This framework uses Claude Code as the engine for a whole job hunt: it scrapes postings, ranks them against your profile, drafts a tailored CV and cover letter in LaTeX and prepares interview material, all on your own machine so your data stays private.
Breaking out
Ranked by growth relative to their own size, not by stars added. These are small enough that a week can multiply them — and small enough to have escaped you.
T-Auto/dsh-ops · +566.1% this week → 3,064 stars · dsh-ops star curve
The second DeepSeek Harness plugin this week, and the more practical one: on Windows it bundles bash, PowerShell 7 and fast Rust file-search tools, so an agent's shell commands run faster and cost fewer tokens. Where dsh-our-free-model changes which model the harness talks to, dsh-ops changes how cheaply it acts.
ARahim3/DigUp · +297.3% this week → 4,796 stars · DigUp star curve
Earlier: 1,207 stars on 2026-10-12
DigUp is semantic search for everything on a Mac — pictures, PDFs, documents, audio, video and optionally code — using a multimodal embedding model run locally through llama.cpp, so a query from a global shortcut opens the file at the exact line or moment without anything leaving the machine.
onehumanbeing/esp32-iphone-agent · +277.0% over 5.8 days → 3,110 stars · esp32-iphone-agent star curve
This one gives an agent hands on a real iPhone: an ESP32-S3 board acts as a USB input bridge while AirPlay mirrors the screen, so the agent can see and tap the phone with no developer account and nothing installed on the device.
Read across both boards and the common thread is not a domain but an interface. Photoshop, Word, a closed binary, an iPhone, a harness's shell: the projects that moved this week are the ones that take something built for hands and eyes and turn it into something an agent can call, one command at a time.
