What it solves

This project provides a specialized design system for creating editorial images—such as posters, zines, and packaging—using a limited ink palette (one or two colors). It solves the problem of generating visually cohesive, professional-grade print aesthetics that mimic mechanical reproduction processes like risograph, halftone, and cyanotype without requiring manual graphic design expertise.

How it works

The system transforms a theme, phrase, or photograph into a structured editorial layout. It follows a strict set of visual rules:

• Ink Control: Defaults to a two-ink system (one dominant plate at 70-85% and one accent plate at 15-30%) or a pure one-ink monochrome look.
• Composition: Uses an asymmetric editorial grid where 25-55% of the canvas remains empty paper to create "silence" and pacing.
• Visual Effects: Applies mechanical reproduction styles such as halftone dots, risograph grain, or photocopy breakup.
• Typography: Pairs a content-responsive display font with a utility voice, avoiding generic templates.
• Substrate: Selects an adaptive background (Neutral White, Cool Gray, or Pale Beige) based on the the subject and ink contrast.
