Letting AI Actively Manage Its Own Context
What it solves
Pi Context provides agentic context management to prevent AI agents from becoming overwhelmed by long, noisy conversations. It allows agents to maintain a clean working set by checkpointing key moments, inspecting the history structure, and compacting completed task paths into concise state summaries.
How it works
The tool integrates as a skill for AI agents, providing three primary mechanisms:
- Checkpointing: Agents can label specific conversation nodes with semantic names (e.g.,
parser-investigation-start) to create anchors. - Timeline Inspection: Agents can view a structural map of the active conversation path, including checkpoints, branch points, and user turns, to orient themselves.
- Compaction: Agents can create a summarized continuation branch from a previous point in the history. This summary restores essential state—such as decisions and external side effects—while removing unnecessary noise.
Who it’s for
This tool is designed for AI agents operating within the Pi ecosystem (Pi >= 0.84.2) and the developers who build them, as well as users who want to better manage long-session token usage and conversation history.
Highlights
- Lossless Time Travel: Inspired by kimi-cli d-mail, it enables navigation and branching within the session tree.
- Visual Dashboard: Includes a
/contextcommand to inspect token distribution and context-window usage. - Session Analysis: A developer tool for generating offline token timelines and reports from saved session files.
- Semantic Naming: Supports specific naming conventions (like
-start,-done,-pivot) to track task phases.
