Persistent infinite memory with profiles, background agents, and conversation imports for Pi.
What it solves
Pi-OptChat provides persistent, long-term memory for the Pi AI assistant. Instead of losing context when a chat session ends or becomes too long, it organizes your conversation history into a structured summary tree. This allows the AI to remember past interactions across different sessions and projects without hitting context limits.
How it works
It uses a "summary tree" design: every message you send is logged, and older messages are progressively summarized into compact lines. When you start a new turn, the AI receives a fresh, bounded view of your history—including the most recent exchanges and summarized versions of older ones. You can create separate "profiles" (like work or personal) to keep memories and instructions isolated. The system also supports "subagents" that can work on specific tasks in the background while you continue chatting.
Who it’s for
This tool is for power users of the Pi AI assistant who want to maintain long-running, complex projects without the AI "forgetting" previous instructions or context. It is ideal for developers or researchers who need to manage multiple distinct workstreams and delegate sub-tasks to background agents.
Highlights
- Persistent memory that survives session restarts and directory changes.
- Separate profiles to manage different contexts, instructions, and settings.
- Subagent support for delegating tasks to background processes that you can monitor and guide.
- Import tools to bring in history from other platforms like Claude Code, ChatGPT, and Pi.
- Built-in inspection tools to view token usage, memory status, and active agent trees.
- Fully local storage using Git repositories for each profile, ensuring your data remains on your machine.
