What it solves

MouseTooltipTranslator is a browser extension that removes the friction of reading foreign-language content online. Instead of copying text into a translator tab, you simply hover your mouse over (or highlight) any text and a translation tooltip appears instantly. It also handles cases normal translators miss: text inside PDFs, subtitles on YouTube videos, and even text baked into images via OCR.

How it works

The extension runs inside Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. When you hover or select text, it sends that text to Google Translate or Bing Translate and shows the result in a small popup near your cursor. A few keyboard shortcuts extend it: left Ctrl speaks the pronunciation using Google text-to-speech, right Alt translates text you type in an input box, and holding left Shift while hovering over an image triggers OCR to read and translate text from the image (useful for manga). PDF translation is handled through PDF.js, and YouTube gets dual-subtitle support. It can also translate via speech recognition.

It’s a consumer tool, so no coding is needed to use it; developers can also build it from source with Node.js.
