Fast, universal domain availability checker - 1,200+ TLDs, pattern generation, RDAP with WHOIS fallback. CLI + Rust library + MCP server for AI agents.

What it solves

domain-check is a fast, universal domain exploration engine that allows users to check the availability of domain names across a vast number of Top-Level Domains (TLDs). It eliminates the need to manually check registries or use web-based tools by providing a high-performance CLI, a Rust library, and an MCP server for AI agents.

How it works

The engine uses a dual-protocol approach, prioritizing RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) and falling back to WHOIS when necessary. It automatically loads the full IANA registry to support over 1,200 TLDs. To speed up checks, it supports up to 100 concurrent requests and streams results in real-time.

Who it’s for

  • Entrepreneurs and Startups: To find available brand names across tech, creative, or finance presets.
  • Developers: To integrate domain checking into Rust projects via the domain-check-lib library.
  • AI Agent Users: To give AI coding agents (like Claude, Cursor, or Gemini) the ability to check domain availability via the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Security Professionals: To audit trademarks and protect brands across all known TLDs.

Highlights

  • Extensive TLD Support: Supports 1,200+ TLDs with automatic IANA bootstrap loading.
  • Agent-Native: Includes an MCP server that exposes tools like check_domain and generate_names to AI agents.
  • Smart Presets: 11 curated TLD lists (e.g., startup, tech, ecommerce) for targeted searches.
  • Flexible Generation: Supports pattern expansion (letters, digits), prefixes, and suffixes to generate and check name variations.
  • Automation Friendly: Provides JSON and CSV outputs and flags for non-interactive CI/CD pipelines.
  • Crate Ecosystem: Available as a CLI tool, a Rust library, and an MCP server.
