Examples of prompts for Microsoft Copilot

pnp/copilot-prompts — Copilot Prompt Gallery

What it is

A community-run collection of reusable prompts, agent instructions, and skills for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and GitHub Copilot. The main entry point is a web gallery where you can discover, search, filter, and download these samples. The project is maintained by volunteers in the Microsoft 365 & Power Platform Community, not by Microsoft — samples are provided as-is with no official support or service-level agreement.

What it contains

Three types of samples, each stored in its own folder:

Type Purpose
Prompt A reusable instruction for a focused task or outcome
Agent instruction Instructions that define an agent's role, process, tone, and boundaries
Skill A SKILL.md package that teaches GitHub Copilot a repeatable multi-step task

Current counts: 119 prompt samples, 31 agent instructions, 10 skills. Every sample includes a README.md and an assets/sample.json; skills also include a SKILL.md file.

How to use it

Start at the gallery website. Each sample page shows a preview, a description, metadata (product, contributor, creation/update dates), the contributor's setup and usage documentation, and links to view or download the source. The README warns that prompts can produce incomplete or inaccurate results, and that requirements vary across Copilot products, tenants, licenses, and organizational policies — so you should validate and adapt every sample for your own security, privacy, compliance, and governance needs.

How to contribute

The project welcomes new samples, improvements, documentation fixes, and issue reports. Before contributing: search the gallery and existing issues to avoid duplicates, read the Contribution Guidance, and keep each pull request focused on one sample or one logical change. GitHub Copilot can scaffold all three contribution types in VS Code (e.g., "Create a new prompt sample"). Contributors earn a Prompt Pro Microsoft 365 & Power Platform Community Credly badge. By contributing, you permit the community to display your GitHub avatar on the gallery and in recognition posts; you can opt out by contacting maintainers via a repository issue.

Support and issue routing

  • Problem with a specific sample: review that sample's documentation first, then search or open a GitHub issue.
  • New sample idea or gallery improvement: use the matching issue form.
  • General Microsoft Copilot product/licensing/tenant questions: use official Microsoft documentation, your Microsoft support channel, or the relevant product community — this repository does not provide product support.
  • Security vulnerabilities: follow SECURITY.md; do not disclose sensitive details in a public issue.

Maintainer and contributor assistance is voluntary and best-effort.

Technical details

The gallery is a static site built with Astro. During the build, it reads every sample's assets/sample.json and README.md. Requires Node.js 22.19.0 or newer. Local development commands (from the site folder): npm ci, npm run dev. Before submitting gallery changes, run npm run validate:readme-trackers, npm run build, and npm run test:e2e. A deployment workflow publishes the validated artifact to pnp.github.io/copilot-prompts.

Disclaimer

The README states samples and documentation are provided as-is without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement.
