nano-muse/nanoMuse

nanoMuse: an open-source personal agent for every device you own. One agent with a name and a look of its own that does things, keeps working while the app is closed, remembers you, and asks before anything you cannot undo. On Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows / macOS / Linux and in the browser; your phone's screen and your computer as its hands.

What it solves

Most personal AI assistants live in someone else's cloud and can only answer questions. nanoMuse is an open-source alternative that runs on your own devices — phone, computer, and web — and actually does things: it can use a browser, run shell commands, operate apps through their screens, and keep working even when the app is closed. It asks for your confirmation before anything you can't undo, like sending or paying, and keeps your data on your own machines or a relay you host yourself.

How it works

Each device runs its own agent. The phone app bundles a small Linux environment (Alpine Linux under proot) with a shell, a browser, and MCP support. The desktop app is built on DeepSeek Harness and includes a Python runtime for controlling windows. When you sign in, your devices meet on a relay — the community relay gives you a free model-use allowance, or you can host your own relay so nothing leaves your network. Conversations travel through the relay, but files and screenshots stay where they were made. The agent can hand off tasks between devices (e.g., say it on your phone, it runs on your PC) and sends approvals back to the device in your hand. Memory — what it knows about you and when it wakes — is stored as editable Markdown files.

Who it's for

People who want a personal AI agent they actually own: no cloud lock-in, with the freedom to choose any model (OpenRouter, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, or plans you already pay for like ChatGPT or Claude). It suits both everyday users who want a companion that operates their apps and does chores, and developers who want to self-host or extend an agent that runs across many devices.

Highlights

  • Free, open source (GPL-3.0-or-later), non-profit, with a free allowance on the community relay.
  • Works on Android, iPhone/iPad, macOS, Windows, Linux, and in the browser — one account shares conversations across all.
  • Can operate apps without an API by using the screen as a hand (on phone and desktop), with you taking over for logins and CAPTCHAs.
  • Remembers you in editable Markdown files, and can run scheduled routines and write a daily feed.
  • Available in chat apps like 飞书, 钉钉, 企业微信, and Telegram.
  • Customizable appearance: describe a look, an image model draws it, a video model animates it (a small dragon by default).
  • Self-hosting options: no server at all with your own key, your own relay with a one-line script, or your own runtime for the web app.
