mmorise/World

A high-quality speech analysis, manipulation and synthesis system

What it solves

WORLD provides a high-quality system for analyzing, manipulating, and synthesizing human speech. It allows users to decompose speech signals into their core components—pitch, aperiodicity, and spectral envelope—and then reconstruct speech from those parameters to create high-quality synthetic audio.

How it works

The system estimates three primary parameters from an input speech signal:

  1. Fundamental frequency (F0): The pitch of the voice.
  2. Aperiodicity: The non-periodic parts of the speech signal.
  3. Spectral envelope: The overall shape of the spectral characteristics of the voice.

By estimating these parameters, the system can generate speech that mimics the input signal using only these extracted parameters.

Who it’s for

This tool is designed for researchers and developers working in speech signal processing, speech synthesis, and audio manipulation.

Highlights

  • High-quality synthesis: Focused on producing natural-sounding re-synthesized speech.
  • Comprehensive analysis: Includes specialized algorithms like DIO and Harvest for F0 estimation and CheapTrick for spectral envelope estimation.
  • Broad ecosystem: Supported by numerous community wrappers and ports in Python, C++, JavaScript, C#, Java, and Swift.
