composio-community/open-dot

Open-source personal AI agents that work on their own, on their own computers. Mac app, OpenAI + Composio.

What it solves

Open Dot provides an open-source alternative to OpenAI's "Dots," allowing users to run personal background agents on their own Mac. It removes the requirement for a ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium subscription by letting users use their own API keys from OpenAI or OpenRouter.

How it works

The project is a desktop application built with Electron and Next.js that manages multiple "dots" (agents). Each dot operates its own browser profile and can be connected to over 1,500 apps via Composio. It uses a system of rules to determine which actions require human approval, an encrypted vault for passwords stored in the macOS Keychain, and a scheduler for recurring tasks. For execution, it can run code in local folders, Docker containers, or E2B cloud computers.

Who it’s for

Mac users who want autonomous personal agents to handle background tasks, app integrations, and scheduled routines using their own LLM providers.

Highlights

  • App Integration: Connects to Gmail, Slack, Notion, GitHub, and 1,500+ other apps via Composio.
  • Human-in-the-Loop: Customizable rules allow users to approve or deny risky actions via chat cards.
  • Browser Control: Each agent has its own browser; users can watch the agent work in real-time or take over manually for captchas and logins.
  • Multi-Model Support: Works with OpenAI models or open models (Kimi, DeepSeek, Qwen) via OpenRouter.
  • Voice Interaction: Supports voice calls via OpenAI Realtime API that can transition into text chats.
  • Autonomous Triggers: Can be woken up by specific app events (e.g., a new GitHub issue) to perform predefined tasks.
