awizemann/scarf
Native macOS and iOS App for the Hermes AI agent — multi-window, multi-server (local + remote over SSH). Chat, dashboard, sessions, memory, cron, MCP, and more.
Scarf – GUI client for the Hermes AI agent (macOS & iOS)
What it is – Scarf is a native Swift‑UI application that gives a graphical front‑end to the Hermes AI‑agent platform. It runs on macOS 15+ and iOS 18.6+ (the companion ScarfGo app) and talks to a Hermes server over plain SSH, reading the agent’s state files and invoking the hermes CLI for any changes.
Key capabilities
- Full visibility – dashboards, session history, tool‑call logs, token usage and cost breakdowns, searchable activity feeds.
- Rich interaction – streamed chat via the Agent Client Protocol (ACP) with markdown, tool‑call visualisation, or a real terminal view; voice chat (on‑device speech‑to‑text and optional OpenAI‑powered live voice).
- Project‑oriented workflow – each repository appears as a Project with its own dashboard, Kanban board, cron jobs, memory files, skills, templates and mini‑apps.
- Multi‑server support – manage any number of Hermes hosts (local
~/.hermes/or remote machines) through the system SSH configuration; each server opens in its own window. - Configuration UI – edit Hermes config, platforms (Telegram, Discord, etc.), models (local Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, llama.cpp), MCP servers, gateways, cron, secrets, plugins, and more without touching YAML files.
- Safety – Scarf reads the Hermes SQLite database read‑only; all write actions go through the official
hermesCLI, preventing corruption. No middle‑man service is required. - Cross‑platform companion – ScarfGo on iPhone mirrors the Mac UI, letting you chat, edit memory, run cron, and switch profiles from the phone. SSH keys are generated on‑device and stored in the iOS keychain.
Typical workflow
- Install Scarf (download the notarised app or build from source).
- Add a Hermes server via File → Open Server → Add (just like
ssh user@host). - Choose a Project – the UI shows a cockpit with Dashboard, Sessions, Cron, Memory, Skills, etc.
- Chat with the agent, run tools, edit memory files, or launch a voice conversation.
- Use the Configure panes to add platforms, switch models, or manage MCP servers.
- Inspect logs, run diagnostics, or push updates to a fleet of machines.
Privacy – The macOS app sends only anonymised usage events (no content, paths or hostnames). iOS app sends nothing. Live‑voice mode streams audio directly to OpenAI only after user consent.
Installation – Pre‑built binaries are signed and auto‑update via Sparkle; source can be built with Xcode 16 or the provided local-build.sh script.
Who it’s for – Developers or power‑users who run the Hermes AI‑agent on their own machines and want a native, secure GUI to monitor, control, and interact with it without writing YAML or using the terminal.
