ReceiptHero is an open-source web app that helps you manage receipts using AI-powered OCR (optical character recognition). It reads the text from receipt images and turns it into structured data, then shows you a spending breakdown. The app runs entirely in your browser, and your data stays local for privacy.

How it works

1. You upload receipt images by dragging and dropping them or selecting files.
2. The images are sent to Together AI's Qwen3.5 vision model, which performs OCR (reads the text).
3. The model extracts structured details: vendor, date, amount, items, currency, and payment method.
4. Expenses are automatically categorized (e.g., groceries, dining, gas).
5. You see a spending breakdown and a receipt management interface.
6. All data is stored locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

Running it locally

1. Fork or clone the repository.
2. Create an account at Together AI to get an API key for the OCR service.
3. Create a .env file (use .example.env as a template) and add your API key.
4. Run npm install and then npm run dev to install dependencies and start the development server.
