Mats2208/MCP-Packet-Tracer

AI-powered Cisco Packet Tracer automation over MCP. Describe a network in natural language and it generates, validates and deploys full topologies (OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, DHCP).

What it solves

Building and configuring network topologies in Cisco Packet Tracer is often a manual, repetitive process. This project automates the entire workflow, allowing you to describe a network in plain language and have an AI agent plan, build, configure, and verify the topology for you.

How it works

It acts as a bridge between any Model Context Protocol (MCP) client (like Claude Code or Cursor) and Cisco Packet Tracer. When you provide a prompt, the AI agent uses a set of specialized tools to generate a plan, validate it, and then send instructions to a custom extension running inside Packet Tracer. This extension executes the commands to place devices, connect cables, and apply configurations (such as OSPF, DHCP, or VLANs) in real time. It also supports verifying connectivity by running pings and inspecting device tables directly.

Who it’s for

This tool is designed for network students, engineers, and enthusiasts who use Cisco Packet Tracer and want to leverage AI to speed up lab creation, automate repetitive configuration tasks, or troubleshoot network designs through natural language.

Highlights

  • Natural Language Deployment: Describe complex networks (e.g., "3 routers in a triangle with OSPF") and watch them build automatically.
  • Full Lifecycle Management: Handles planning, validation, auto-fixing, live deployment, and verification.
  • Device Interaction: Allows the AI to work inside device windows, including CLI configuration, service setup, and web browsing.
  • Extensive Tooling: Includes nearly 100 tools for tasks like routing, switching, security hardening, and packet tracing.
  • Secure Architecture: Uses a token-authenticated HTTP bridge to prevent unauthorized code injection into the Packet Tracer environment.
