Open-source personal finance app with an AI financial advisor: track your net worth, investments, ETFs, cash and debts on your own computer.
Aurelio – AI‑powered personal finance manager
What it is – Aurelio is a self‑hosted wealth‑management tool that lets you keep all of your financial data locally while optionally consulting an AI advisor. The AI side talks to OpenRouter (defaulting to Claude Opus 5.5) and can answer questions, search the web, and suggest portfolio changes that you must confirm.
Key capabilities
- Data aggregation – Import and store cash, holdings, bank and broker accounts, real‑estate, debts, recurring investments, income/expenses, and goals in a local SQLite database (
backend/data.db). - Portfolio view – Shows market‑priced positions with cost basis, gains, dividends and a look‑through breakdown of fund holdings by country, sector, company and currency.
- Cash‑flow & goal tracking – Calculates savings rate, required returns for each goal, and visualises cash flow over time.
- AI chat assistant – "Ask Aurelio" lets you query your own records, perform web searches, and receive suggested actions presented as confirmable cards.
- Analyst‑confidant dialogue – An internal reasoning module runs two virtual agents (an analyst and a confidant) that debate your portfolio and produce a concise synthesis of what to review first.
How to try it
- Install Git, Node 22+, and the Python package manager uv.
- Clone the repo and run
./start.sh --demo(or./start.ps1 -Demoon Windows) to launch a demo household on http://localhost:8000. - Omit the
--demoflag to load your own data stored inbackend/data.db.
Enabling the AI
- Sign up at openrouter.ai, obtain an API key, copy
backend/.env.exampletobackend/.env, and setOPENROUTER_API_KEY. - The default model is Claude Opus 5.5; costs are listed in the README (≈ $0.11 for a single‑round question).
Development notes
- Backend: Python (uv, FastAPI, Uvicorn) – tests run with
uv run pytest. - Frontend: Node/React – hot‑reload via
npm run devand unit tests withnpm test. - MIT‑licensed, so you can modify and redistribute.
Who it’s for – Anyone who wants a privacy‑first personal finance dashboard with optional AI‑driven insights, without sending raw financial records to a third‑party service.
