K-Dense-AI/k-dense-byok
An AI co-scientist running on your desktop. Claude Science but better.
What it solves
K-Dense BYOK provides scientists with a local AI research assistant named Kady that can execute complex research tasks—such as analyzing datasets, reviewing manuscripts, and searching literature—without requiring the user to have coding experience. It solves the problem of bridging the gap between high-level research questions and the the technical execution of data analysis and documentation.
How it works
Kady operates as a local application that uses a "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) model, allowing users to connect their own AI model providers (via API keys or subscriptions like ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, or local models via Ollama). The assistant can write and run analysis code, search the web, read various scientific file formats, and maintain a "Living Lab Notebook" to record its reasoning trail. It utilizes a library of 149 scientific skills, 326 guided workflow templates, and 21 specialized sub-agents to perform focused assignments like statistical review or literature synthesis.
Who it’s for
Researchers and scientists across various fields (including genomics, proteomics, chemistry, and clinical research) who want to automate the technical aspects of their research workflow while maintaining control over their data and the models they use.
Highlights
- Local Workspace: All projects, conversations, and results are stored on the user's computer, ensuring data privacy.
- Scientific Toolkit: Includes built-in support for over 60 scientific file formats, 149 skills, and 229 data resources.
- Flexible Model Support: Compatible with a wide range of hosted providers (OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and local models via Ollama.
- Living Lab Notebook: Automatically logs hypotheses, methods, and observations into a structured record that can be exported as a manuscript-style Methods draft.
- Integrated LaTeX: Features a split source/PDF view for writing scientific papers with AI-assisted editing.
- Extensibility: Supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect external tools like reference managers and databases.
