What it solves
Academic Forge provides a centralized platform for discovering and installing "skills" (specialized AI agent capabilities) for academic research. It eliminates the need to manually copy entire repositories to add specific functionalities to AI agents like Claude Code, OpenCode, or Codex, allowing researchers to selectively install only the tools they need.
How it works
The project operates as a "mod loader" for AI agents. Users can browse a web-based selection site to pick specific skill packs, which then generates a one-line installation command. Alternatively, users can run a shell or PowerShell script to install specific skills directly from the repository. It also supports an AI-driven selection process where an agent can read the project's documentation to recommend and install the appropriate skills based on the user's research needs.
