CometixCode – a terminal‑based AI coding assistant (Rust re‑implementation of Claude Code)

What it is

• An open‑source, command‑line UI that mimics Anthropic’s Claude Code tool, letting you chat with a large‑language‑model‑powered coding assistant directly from the terminal.
• The project is a 1:1 port of Claude Code’s UI, but written in Rust instead of TypeScript/React. It uses the iocraft‑derived TUI framework CometixTUI to provide the same component‑/hook‑based architecture.

Key capabilities (as of the current work‑in‑progress state)

• Interactive chat loop with Claude‑style code‑generation prompts.
• Execution of tool commands, permission handling, multi‑command‑prompt (MCP) and slash‑commands (partial implementation).
• File‑search powered by ripgrep (the binary is looked up in a vendor folder or via the host rg).
• Fuzzy completion for files, commands and agents using the nucleo matcher from the Helix editor.
• Markdown rendering via a Rust port of marked (marked‑rs).
• Direct API calls to Anthropic (and other models via the sponsor’s Infistar API) through anthropic‑sdk‑rs.

How to get it running

1. Install Rust 1.88+ (edition 2024). No extra system libraries are required.
2. Build the binary:

   cargo build --release
   

3. Run it:

   cargo run --release   # launches the `cometix` executable
   

   • For Windows cross‑compilation, add the GNU target and have a mingw‑w64 toolchain on PATH.
   • Ensure a rg (ripgrep) binary is available – either drop one under vendor/ripgrep/… or install it globally.

Development workflow

• Tests are executed with cargo‑nextest via the just test command; this isolates each test in its own process because the crate holds global state.
• just t <pattern> runs a filtered subset, and just check performs a fast type‑check without linking.

• Chat groups on QQ, Telegram, and the Linux.do forum are listed for user discussion.
• The project is sponsored by Infistar.cc, which offers a high‑availability AI API (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and provides bonus credits to CometixCode users.
