Khan Academy Integrates GPT-4 to Power Khanmigo AI Assistant
Khan Academy has announced the integration of GPT-4 to power Khanmigo, an AI-powered assistant designed to serve as both a virtual tutor for students and a classroom assistant for teachers. This partnership aims to address the disparity in student learning levels and gaps in knowledge that were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Virtual Tutoring for Individualized Learning
Khanmigo uses GPT-4's ability to understand freeform questions and prompts to facilitate human-like interactions, allowing it to ask students individualized questions that prompt deeper conceptual understanding rather than simply providing answers.
Key capabilities for students include:
- Conceptual Depth: The assistant prompts students with questions such as "Why did you answer that way?" or "What would happen if—?" to ensure they understand the underlying concepts.
- Personalized Motivation: GPT-4 can answer student questions regarding the relevance of their studies based on the student's specific interests.
