Anthropic expands AI for Science support and Claude subscriptions for researchers

Anthropic has expanded its support for the global research community by introducing a dedicated team plan for scientists and broadening the scope of its AI for Science credit program. These initiatives aim to accelerate scientific discovery by increasing researcher access to Claude's capabilities and specialized tools like Claude Science.

New Claude Team Plan for Scientists

Anthropic is offering 10,000 seats for scientists to access Claude subscriptions for one year. This program is available to principal investigators or equivalents at academic or nonprofit research institutions, who can add researchers from their labs upon verification.

Two tiers of access are available under this plan:

• Standard seats: Provided for free.
• Premium seats: Available for $15 per month, offering 5x the usage limits of standard seats.

Anthropic intends to extend this program beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months.

Expansion of the AI for Science Program

Previously focused primarily on biological sciences, the AI for Science program is now expanding to support researchers in other scientific fields. This includes support for ambitious, compute-heavy research, such as work related to the Riemann zeta function and protein design.

Researchers can apply for up to $50,000 in credits per project through the AI for Science program, and any researcher is eligible to apply.

Model Access and Safety Constraints

Access to specific models is restricted based on the field of research to mitigate dual-use risks:

• Biology and Chemistry: Researchers in these fields remain limited to Opus-class models. Claude Fable models continue to block professional biology and drug development queries due to safety concerns.
• Life Sciences Access Program: Anthropic is partnering with the US government to create an access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models. The first participants have already been enrolled, with more access expected soon.

Integrated Research Tooling

These subscription and credit programs complement Claude Science, a product launched in June that integrates common research tools, produces auditable artifacts, and provides flexible access to computing resources.
