Anthropic Launches Claude Corps Fellowship Program

Anthropic has launched Claude Corps, a national fellowship program that provides 1,000 early-career professionals with training and funding to implement AI systems within nonprofits across the United States. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between transformative AI capabilities and real-world community application while providing a scalable model for sharing AI's economic benefits during a period of workforce disruption.

Program Structure and Funding

Anthropic is committing an initial $150 million to fund Claude Corps. The program is operated through a partnership between three organizations:

  • Anthropic: Provides funding, overall strategy, and technical expertise on Claude.
  • CodePath: Acts as the official employer of record and leads the fellowship programming and education.
  • Social Finance: Manages measurement and evaluation and is developing a long-term financial vehicle to enable the program to scale.

The Fellow Experience

Fellows are early-career individuals (over 18 with less than two years of full-time work experience) who are placed in host organizations for 12 months. The fellowship includes:

  • Compensation: A full-time salary of $85,000 plus benefits.
  • Training: Intensive initial training on using Claude in nonprofit settings, followed by five hours of weekly ongoing training.
  • Support: Access to CodePath mentors, Anthropic technical office hours, and an expansive Claude token budget.

Impact on Host Organizations

At least 400 nonprofits will host Claude Corps fellows. These organizations intend to use AI to automate organizational management, enhance data analysis, and scale public services. Examples of participating organizations and their goals include:

  • RAINN: Expanding secure, private tools for survivors to allow staff to focus on crisis support.
  • International Rescue Committee: Streamlining operations and building AI-powered services for people in war and crisis.
  • Montgomery County Food Bank: Improving donor understanding and distribution forecasting.
  • Team Red, White & Blue: Using data, automation, and personalization to scale veteran health and wellness support.
  • Pacific Community Ventures: Strengthening predictive underwriting models and improving LLM-powered survey tools.
  • REEF: Building tools and workflows for managing large marine datasets and ocean conservation.

Application Timeline and Eligibility

Applications for both fellows and host organizations are currently open. The first cohort of 100 fellows begins in October 2026, with applications closing July 17th. Subsequent cohorts will begin in January 2027 and August 2027.

Eligibility for fellows requires authorization to work in the US, comfort working with Claude, and a willingness to relocate if necessary (relocation support is provided).

Future Scaling and Open Source Goals

Anthropic intends to scale the program beyond the initial 1,000 fellows and plans to replicate the model in other countries. To facilitate this, the company intends to open-source some of the core technology and infrastructure used to manage the program, allowing other organizations to build similar initiatives.
