Anthropic Expands Claude Access to U.S. Government Branches
Anthropic is providing Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government to all three branches of the U.S. government—including federal civilian executive agencies, the legislative branch, and the judiciary—for a cost of $1. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers and enable federal workers to utilize advanced AI capabilities to improve public service and mission-critical operations.
Expanded Access and Procurement
Anthropic is offering a one-year package that includes access to frontier models with continuous updates and dedicated technical support to assist agencies in integrating AI into productivity and mission workflows. This expansion is facilitated by a partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA), following the recent addition of Claude to the GSA schedule to streamline procurement.
Available Tiers and Security Standards
Government partners can choose between two primary offerings based on their security and workload requirements:
- Claude for Government: Supports FedRAMP High workloads, allowing federal workers to handle sensitive unclassified work.
- Claude for Enterprise: Provides advanced AI capabilities for broader organizational use.
To maintain security, Claude for Government is certified for FedRAMP High, which is the most stringent requirement for handling unclassified sensitive government data. Agencies can access these models through existing secure infrastructure via partnerships with AWS, Google Cloud, and Palantir, ensuring they maintain complete control over their data.
Proven Government Use Cases
Claude is currently utilized across several critical government functions:
- National Security: The Department of Defense, through the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, selected Claude via an agreement with a $200 million ceiling to advance U.S. national security capabilities.
- Scientific Research: 10,000 scientists and researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory use Claude daily to accelerate discoveries.
- Public Health: The District of Columbia Department of Health deployed Claude to help residents access health services in multiple languages.
