OpenAI and Dell Technologies Partnership for Enterprise Codex Deployment

OpenAI and Dell Technologies have partnered to enable enterprises to deploy Codex in hybrid and on-premises environments. This collaboration allows businesses to bring AI agents closer to their internal data, systems, and workflows, providing a more secure and practical path to production for large organizations.

Codex Enterprise Adoption and Expanded Use Cases

Codex is currently one of OpenAI's fastest-growing enterprise products, with over 4 million weekly active developers. While primarily used for the software development lifecycle—including code review, test coverage, incident response, and reasoning across large repositories—its utility is expanding into general knowledge work.

Teams are now utilizing Codex-powered agents to:

  • Gather context across various tools
  • Prepare reports
  • Route product feedback
  • Product lead qualification
  • Write follow-ups
  • Coordinate work across business systems

Integration with Dell AI Infrastructure

To scale adoption, OpenAI is integrating Codex with Dell's enterprise infrastructure to support hybrid and on-premises deployments. This integration focuses on two primary components:

Dell AI Data Platform

Codex will connect with the Dell AI Data Platform, which enterprises use to store, organize, and govern data on-premises. This connection allows Codex to access the internal context necessary for effective agentic AI, such as codebases, documentation, business systems, operational knowledge, and team workflows.

Dell AI Factory

Dell and OpenAI are exploring integrations with the Dell AI Factory, which powers AI workloads. This exploration includes enabling Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other API-based solutions to interface with the AI Factory to:

  • Prepare data
  • Manage systems of record
  • Run tests
  • deploy AI applications integrated with hybrid or on-premises Dell infrastructure.

Enterprise Security and Production Readiness

By deploying Codex closer to enterprise data and systems, organizations can implement the controls required by large-scale operations. This proximity to governed enterprise data enables customers to build, test, automate, and analyze with the full context required for production-grade work.

As Ihab Tarazi, SVP and CTO of Infrastructure Solutions Group at Dell Technologies, stated:

"Collaborating with OpenAI brings together Dell’s industry-leading enterprise grade infrastructure with cutting edge agentic AI harnesses and models from OpenAI. The Dell AI Factory with OpenAI Codex will allow enterprises to deploy AI where enterprise data already lives, within their premises, giving customers a practical, secure path to deploying AI agents at scale."

This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of Codex and its transition from a tool for developers to a repeatable system for high-value enterprise workflows.
