Anthropic Introduces Claude Projects for Collaborative AI Workflows
Anthropic has introduced Projects, a new organizational feature for Claude Pro and Team users that allows them to group chats with curated sets of knowledge and custom instructions. This update transforms Claude from a standalone chatbot into a collaborative workspace where users can ground AI outputs in internal organizational data to improve strategic decision-making and content generation.
Grounding Claude in Internal Knowledge
Projects eliminate the "cold start problem" by allowing users to upload specific documents, codebases, style guides, and interview transcripts to ground Claude's responses. This ensures that the AI provides expert assistance tailored to the specific context of a business or project.
Key technical specifications for Projects include:
- Context Window: Each project provides a 200K context window, which Anthropic describes as the equivalent of a 500-page book.
- Model Support: Projects can be powered by Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
- Custom Instructions: Users can define specific instructions for each Project to tailor the tone, perspective, or industry-specific role Claude assumes when responding.
Side-by-Side Development with Artifacts
To enhance the iterative process of building and editing, Anthropic has introduced Artifacts. This feature provides a dedicated window alongside the main conversation for generating and viewing content such as:
- Code snippets
- Text documents
- Graphics and diagrams
- Website designs
Artifacts are particularly beneficial for developers, as they provide a larger code window and live previews for frontends, streamlining the review process. Artifacts are currently available via a feature preview in the Claude.ai account menu.
Team Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
For Claude Team users, Projects include a shared activity feed. This allows team members to share snapshots of successful conversations, enabling the entire organization to discover new ways to utilize the AI and uplevel their collective skills.
Anthropic notes that sharing co-created work products can accelerate innovation in research and product development by aggregating organizational knowledge from across a company.
Privacy and Data Security
As part of its privacy commitment, Anthropic states that any data or chats shared within Projects will not be used to train its generative models without the explicit consent of the user.
Real-World Application: North Highland
North Highland, a change and transformation consultancy, utilizes the Claude Team plan to scale expert services. According to Luka Anic, Senior Director of Technical AI Program and Product Manager at North Highland:
The Claude Team plan is transforming our way of working at North Highland. Claude is a truly exceptional writer that has helped our team complete content creation and analysis tasks up to 5x faster than before—turning what was once two weeks of writing and research into minutes of work.
Future Roadmap
Anthropic plans to expand the capabilities of Projects in the coming months by introducing native integrations with popular third-party applications and tools to expand the types of project knowledge that can be imported into Claude.
