Claude Design Release Notes

Anthropic has introduced Claude Design, a new product from Anthropic Labs that allows users to collaborate with Claude to create polished visual assets including designs, prototypes, slides, and one-pagers. Powered by the Claude Opus 4.7 vision model, the tool is currently in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.

Core Capabilities and Use Cases

Claude Design enables both professional designers and non-designers to generate and iterate on visual work through conversational prompts and direct editing. The tool is designed to reduce the friction of prototyping and the limitations of manual exploration.

Key applications include:

  • Interactive Prototypes: Designers can convert static mockups into shareable interactive prototypes for user testing without requiring code reviews or pull requests.
  • Product Wireframes: Product Managers can create feature flows to be handed off to Claude Code for implementation or further refinement by designers.
  • Design Exploration: The tool allows designers to rapidly generate a wide range of visual directions.
  • Presentations and Pitch Decks: Users can transform rough outlines into on-brand decks, which can be exported to PPTX or Canva.
  • Marketing Assets: Marketers can create landing pages and social media visuals for subsequent designer polishing.
  • Frontier Design: The platform supports code-powered prototypes incorporating 3D, shaders, voice, video, and built-in AI.

Technical Workflow and Integration

Claude Design utilizes a natural creative flow that integrates brand identity and external data into the design process.

Brand Integration and Design Systems

During onboarding, Claude Design builds a team design system by analyzing a company's codebase and design files. This ensures that all subsequent projects automatically apply the organization's specific colors, typography, and components. Teams can maintain multiple design systems and refine them over time.

Input and Import Methods

Users can initiate projects using several methods:

  • Text Prompts: Direct descriptions of the required design.
  • File Uploads: Support for images and documents in DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX formats.
  • Codebase Integration: Pointing Claude directly at an existing codebase.
  • Web Capture: A tool to capture elements from live websites to ensure prototypes mirror actual products.

Refinement and Collaboration

Iteration occurs through a combination of fine-grained controls and collaborative tools:

  • Direct Editing: Users can edit text directly, comment inline on specific elements, or use custom adjustment knobs (created by Claude) to tweak layout, color, and spacing.
  • Organization-Scoped Sharing: Designs can be kept private, shared via link for viewing within an organization, or shared with edit access for group conversations with Claude.

Export and Handoff

Claude Design provides multiple paths for moving designs into production or final presentation:

  • Export Formats: Designs can be exported as internal URLs, folders, PDF, PPTX, standalone HTML files, or sent directly to Canva.
  • Claude Code Handoff: Once a design is finalized, Claude packages the project into a handoff bundle that can be passed to Claude Code with a single instruction for implementation.

User Feedback and Industry Adoption

Early adopters have reported significant reductions in prototyping time and improved efficiency in the transition from design to code.

"Brilliant's intricate interactivity and animations are historically painful to prototype, but Claude Design's ability to turn static designs into interactive prototypes has been a step change for us. Our most complex pages, which took 20+ prompts to recreate in other tools, only required 2 prompts in Claude Design."

"Claude Design has made prototyping dramatically faster for our team, enabling live design during conversations. We've gone from a rough idea to a working prototype before anyone leaves the room... What used to take a week of back-and-forth between briefs, mockups, and review rounds now happens in a single conversation."

Availability

Claude Design is available to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. For Enterprise organizations, the feature is disabled by default and must be enabled by administrators in the Organization settings.
