OpenAI and News Corp Multi-Year Global Partnership

OpenAI and News Corp have signed a multi-year global partnership to integrate high-quality news content into OpenAI's AI products. This agreement allows OpenAI to display content from News Corp mastheads in response to user queries and use the content to enhance its product offerings, aiming to provide users with reliable information and news sources.

Content Access and Scope

OpenAI now has permission to access both current and archived content from a wide range of News Corp's major news and information publications. The scope of the content access includes:

  • The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, Investor's Business Daily, and FN.
  • The Times, The Sunday Times, and The Sun.
  • The Australian, news.com.au, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier Mail, The Advertiser, and Herald Sun.

This partnership is strictly limited to news and information publications; it does not include access to content from any of News Corp's other business ventures.

Journalistic Standards and Expertise

Beyond the content licensing agreement, the partnership includes a collaboration on journalistic standards. News Corp will share its journalistic expertise to help OpenAI ensure that the highest standards of journalism are present across its AI offerings.

Executive Perspectives

Both CEOs emphasize the importance of this agreement in establishing a new framework for the relationship between AI technology and professional journalism.

"We believe an historic agreement will set new standards for veracity, for virtue and for value in the digital age," said Robert Thomson, Chief Executive of News Corp.

"Our partnership with News Corp is a proud moment for journalism and technology," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stating that the goal is to create a future where AI "deeply respects, enhances, and upholds the standards of world-class journalism."
