Claude for Teachers Release

Anthropic has introduced Claude for Teachers, a specialized offering that provides verified K-12 educators in the United States free access to premium Claude capabilities. The tool is designed to reduce teacher burnout and improve student outcomes by automating administrative tasks and providing direct integration with evidence-based curricula and academic standards across all 50 states.

Integration with K-12 Curricula and Educational Ecosystem

Claude for Teachers is integrated with Learning Commons, granting the AI access to academic standards for all 50 US states, including the specific learning competencies and their typical instructional order. This ensures that lesson plans generated by Claude are scaffolded and aligned with official teaching standards.

Beyond Learning Commons, the platform incorporates trusted curricular resources such as OpenSciEd and IM v.360 from Illustrative Mathematics. It also connects to a broad ecosystem of K-12 tools, including:

• ASSISTments: Generation of auto-scored, standards-aligned math problems.
• Brisk Teaching: Creation of interactive student activities and standards-aligned lessons.
• Canva Education: Conversion of lesson materials into interactive designs.
• Coteach: Generation of high-quality math diagrams grounded in K-12 curriculum.
• Diffit: Adaptation of instructional materials for individual student needs.
• Eedi: Generation of diagnostic questions in English and Spanish to reveal student thinking.
• MagicSchool: Preparation of instructional content for classroom use.
• Snorkl: Provision of insights regarding class assignments and student progress.

Claude for Teachers includes a set of tailored teaching skills co-developed with Learning Commons and refined through feedback from educators, including those at Prospect Schools in Brooklyn. Key capabilities include:

Lesson Planning and Differentiation

Claude can draft lesson plans and student-facing materials by drawing on widely used curricula mapped to state standards. It also provides differentiation capabilities, allowing teachers to adapt materials for students at different readiness levels, creating personalized scaffolds for struggling students and advanced challenges for those who are ready.

Data Analysis and Task Automation

Utilizing Claude Code and Cowork, the platform can perform autonomous work on behalf of the teacher:

• Instructional Planning via Data Analysis: Claude can analyze folders containing rosters, diagnostics, attendance, and teacher notes to create a student-readiness map, allowing for tailored instruction.
• Scheduled Automation: Teachers can schedule repeated tasks, such as reviewing daily exit tickets at 4:00 PM to adapt the following day's plan.

Privacy, Safety, and Data Governance

Claude for Teachers is restricted to educators (18+) and operates under specific teacher terms and a K-12 Data Processing Addendum to comply with FERPA. Anthropic states that data shared within Claude for Teachers is not used for model training purposes.

To establish industry best practices, Anthropic is collaborating with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) to develop a "Gold Standard" for safety and privacy in K-12 education. The final determination of how educational data is used remains subject to district and state policies.

Professional Development and Community Resources

To support AI adoption, Anthropic has released the following resources:

• AI Fluency for PK-12 Teachers: A model-agnostic, Creative Commons-licensed course co-created with Teach For America, including a train-the-trainer module co-created with the AFT.
• Open-Source Contributions: Anthropic has released an open-source repository of teaching skills and a technical write-up on the evaluation of these skills.
• Strategic Partnerships: The initiative is part of a broader effort involving the Gates Foundation to improve K-12 outcomes and a partnership with Playlab to help educators build their own AI tools.

Anthropic will also pilot an evaluation of the tool in the Detroit Public Schools Community District to study its impact on educator wellbeing and instructional practice.

Access and Availability

Verified K-12 educators in the US can access Claude for Teachers for free if they sign up by June 30, 2027. While currently available for individual educators, a dedicated offering for schools and districts is expected in the future. Districts may currently use Claude for Nonprofits.
