OpenAI Acquires Statsig and Appoints Vijaye Raji as CTO of Applications
OpenAI has acquired Statsig, a leading experimentation platform, and appointed Vijaye Raji, the founder and CEO of Statsig, as the new CTO of Applications. This move is designed to accelerate product iteration and scale the engineering systems required to serve hundreds of millions of users and businesses globally.
Leadership Expansion: Vijaye Raji as CTO of Applications
Vijaye Raji will serve as CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications. In this role, Raji will lead product engineering for ChatGPT and Codex, with a scope of responsibility that includes core systems, infrastructure, and Integrity.
Raji brings a decade of experience leading large-scale consumer engineering at Meta and entrepreneurial experience as the founder and CEO of Statsig. According to Fidji Simo, Raji's leadership is intended to help OpenAI turn AI research progress into "safe applications that empower people with many new tools to improve their lives, help companies increase their impact and allow developers to build faster and better products."
Strategic Acquisition of Statsig
Statsig is an experimentation platform used by OpenAI and other innovative companies to manage A/B testing, feature flagging, and real-time decisioning. OpenAI intends to bring the platform in-house to strengthen its ability to accelerate experimentation and create more responsive user experiences across its Applications organization.
Vijaye Raji noted that the foundation of Statsig was built on the belief that the best products are developed through "rapid experimentation, tight feedback loops, and data-informed decision-making."
Operational Structure and Continuity
Following the finalization of the acquisition, Statsig employees will join OpenAI, but the company will continue to operate independently from its Seattle office. OpenAI has stated it will take a measured approach to future integration to ensure continuity for Statsig's existing customer base.
The closing of the acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of regulatory approval.
