OpenAI Frontier Models and Codex Now Available on AWS

OpenAI frontier models and Codex are now generally available on AWS. This integration allows AWS customers to deploy frontier AI capabilities within their existing security, compliance, procurement, and governance workflows, reducing the operational barriers to moving from evaluation to production.

Integration of OpenAI Capabilities on AWS

OpenAI capabilities are available on AWS in two primary ways, enabling enterprises to operate within a familiar AWS operating model to accelerate production deployment.

Codex on Amazon Bedrock

Codex, OpenAI's software engineering agent used by over 5 million people weekly, is now available via Amazon Bedrock. This allows development teams to write, review, debug, and modernize code directly within the AWS environments where they build and ship software.

Regional Availability

These offerings are available in both Commercial and GovCloud regions, ensuring that organizations with strict regulatory requirements can access these models.

Reducing Operational Friction for Enterprises

Integrating OpenAI into AWS environments removes significant barriers to AI adoption for enterprises. By utilizing existing AWS frameworks, organizations can streamline the following processes:

  • Procurement and Billing: Leveraging existing AWS accounts and billing cycles.
  • Security and Governance: Applying trusted AWS controls and governance workflows to AI deployments.
  • Security Review: Accelerating the production readiness of AI-driven applications.

Future Roadmap: Daybreak and Cyber Security

OpenAI plans to expand the capabilities available through AWS, specifically focusing on security-focused AI.

The Daybreak Vision

Future availability on AWS will include Daybreak, OpenAI's vision for transforming software construction and defense. Daybreak incorporates cyber models and Codex Security to assist cyber defenders in identifying risk earlier and increasing software resilience.

Daybreak is designed to integrate secure code review, threat modeling, patch validation, dependency risk analysis, detection, and remediation guidance into the standard development loop. AWS will provide the operational and governance frameworks necessary for security teams to adopt these specialized capabilities.
