CC GUI – Claude, Codex & More

What it is – A JetBrains IntelliJ IDE plugin that adds a graphical chat‑window for several AI‑powered code‑generation services (Anthropic Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and a handful of other command‑line assistants). It lets you converse with the model, send files or images for context, and apply the generated snippets directly inside the IDE.

Why it matters – AI coding assistants are usually accessed via web pages or terminal CLIs. CC GUI brings them into the developer’s primary workspace, providing:

  • Multi‑engine support – switch between Claude, Codex, Grok, Kimi, OpenCode, PI, OMP, DeepSeek, etc., all from one UI.
  • Context‑aware chats – you can reference files (@file) and even attach screenshots so the model sees the exact code you’re working on.
  • Built‑in agent system – slash commands (e.g., /init, /review) let the assistant run predefined workflows, and an optional MCP server can extend capabilities.
  • Developer‑friendly tools – diff view for generated changes, quick navigation/jumping to files, session history with search/favorites, export of conversations, and theme/font sync with the IDE.
  • Security & permissions – the plugin includes permission management and mentions a regular security‑review audit.

How to get it – Install from the JetBrains Marketplace: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/29342-cc-gui-claude-or-codex-. After installation, open the CC GUI tool window, configure the desired AI provider (API keys, model selection), and start chatting.

Getting the best performance – On macOS with Retina displays, disable GPU acceleration for the embedded browser:

-Dide.browser.jcef.gpu.disable=true

Add the flag via Help → Edit Custom VM Options and restart the IDE.

Development & contribution – The project consists of a Kotlin/Gradle backend, a webview frontend, and an ai-bridge node package. To build locally:
