Every agent's model. One place. Codex on DeepSeek, Claude Code on Kimi, from the menu bar.

What it solves

magpie is a unified gateway and configuration manager for AI agents. It eliminates the need to manually edit configuration files for dozens of different agents (like Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI) and solves the problem of fragmented AI subscriptions and API keys across different tools. It allows users to share a single set of providers and subscriptions across all their installed agents.

How it works

magpie acts as a local gateway (127.0.0.1:3425) that translates between different API formats (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) and manages the routing of requests to various providers. It can rewrite agent configuration files atomically to switch models quickly. It also supports "routing groups" to handle fail-over and load balancing across multiple accounts or providers.

Who it’s for

Developers and power users who use multiple AI agents and various LLM providers (API keys or subscriptions) and want a centralized way to manage their models, quotas, and costs without manual configuration.

Highlights

  • Unified Model Picker: A single interface to switch models for 45+ supported agents without editing config files.
  • Multi-Provider Gateway: Supports a wide range of presets including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek, and local models via Ollama or LM Studio.
  • Intelligent Routing: Five routing modes (smart, order, rotate, usage, pace) and intent-based routing to automatically switch models based on the request type.
  • Subscription Sharing: Turns existing sign-ins (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) into providers that any other agent can use.
  • Usage Tracking: Detailed counting of tokens, cache hits, cost at list price, and quota window monitoring.
  • Extensible via Plugins: Supports Bun-based plugins for authentication and gateway middleware to rewrite requests and responses.
