✨ agentic app store previews and screenshots

Goldie – Automated App Store & Google Play screenshot & preview generator

What it is Goldie is a command‑line tool that automates the creation of marketing assets (screenshots, device‑framed images, and short preview videos) for iOS App Store and Android Google Play listings. It replays UI flows on an iOS simulator or Android emulator (via the companion tool Argent), captures the screens, adds device bezels, backgrounds, headlines and layouts, and finally stitches everything into a store‑ready video. The whole pipeline can be driven manually or through a coding agent (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) that writes the flow scripts and configuration for you.

Key capabilities

Feature Details
Cross‑platform Works with any mobile framework – SwiftUI, UIKit, Jetpack Compose, Flutter, React Native, Kotlin Multiplatform.
Simulator / emulator driven Uses Argent to replay pre‑recorded flows on iOS simulators (macOS only) or Android emulators (macOS, Linux, Windows).
Device framing & theming Adds realistic device bezels (iPhone 17‑pro, iPad‑13, Pixel 10 Pro, etc.), custom backgrounds, fonts, and layout templates (editorial, showcase, magazine, storyboard, etc.).
Locale‑aware screenshots Generates one set of captures for all locales by default; optional localizedCaptures flag re‑captures per language.
Preview video generation Produces a 15‑30 s H.264 video that meets App Store preview requirements; also creates a portrait promo video for Google Play.
CLI workflow goldie doctor (environment check), goldie all (full pipeline), goldie studio (browser UI to tweak assets).
AI‑agent friendly Provides a skill that can be added to any coding‑agent platform supporting the “skills” format, letting the agent issue natural‑language commands like “create app store screenshots using goldie”.
Config‑driven All settings live in a TypeScript config (goldie.config.ts) – devices, locales, frame style, theme, custom fonts, decorations, Android APK path, etc.

Installation & prerequisites

# Node 20+ and ffmpeg must be on your PATH
npm i -g goldie
  • iOS – macOS with Xcode (iOS simulators).
  • Android – an Android emulator; on Linux you may need extra packages (see Argent docs).
  • Optional – add the skill to your coding agent:
npx skills add kacperkapusciak/goldie # Cursor, Codex, etc.
/plugin marketplace add kacperkapusciak/goldie # Claude Code
/plugin install goldie@goldie

Typical workflow

  1. Create a config – copy goldie.config.example.ts → goldie.config.ts and point each scene to an Argent flow file (.argent/flows/...).
  2. Run diagnostics – goldie doctor checks that simulators/emulators and flows are reachable.
  3. Generate assets – goldie all captures, frames, renders previews, and validates against store upload rules.
  4. Fine‑tune – goldie studio opens a local web UI where you can switch devices, backgrounds, fonts, and copy; changes are saved to goldie.design.json for reproducibility.
  5. Find output – screenshots in out/screenshots/<device>/<locale>/; videos in out/previews/<device>/<locale>/.

How it ties into AI / coding agents

Goldie itself is not an AI model, but it is built to be agent‑ready. The repository ships a skill that conforms to the generic “skills” format used by several LLM‑powered coding assistants. When an agent receives a natural‑language request (e.g., “create app store screenshots using goldie”), it can:

  • Prompt the developer to choose target stores and locales.
  • Auto‑generate or update the goldie.config.ts and the underlying Argent flow scripts.
  • Invoke the CLI (goldie all) and then present the generated assets back to the user. Thus Goldie acts as a bridge between an LLM‑driven coding workflow and the concrete, platform‑specific assets required for app store marketing.

Who might use it?

  • Mobile developers who want to automate the tedious process of producing store‑compliant screenshots and preview videos.
  • Teams that already employ AI coding assistants and want the assistant to handle the full asset pipeline.
  • Agencies (like Software Mansion) that need a repeatable, customizable solution for multiple client apps.

Sponsorship

Goldie is developed and sponsored by Software Mansion, the creators of the underlying flow‑replay engine Argent.
