snapotter-hq/SnapOtter
Open-source, self-hosted file-processing tool. Convert, compress, OCR, transcribe & run local AI across image, video, audio, PDF & documents, via UI, REST API & pipelines. Your files never leave your network.
What it solves
SnapOtter provides a privacy-focused, self-hosted alternative to cloud-based file manipulation services like CloudConvert, Smallpdf, and Otter.ai. It eliminates the need to upload sensitive documents, images, videos, or audio files to third-party servers by allowing users to process them entirely on their own hardware.
How it works
It is deployed as a Docker stack (using Postgres and Redis) that provides a user interface, a REST API, and a pipeline system to chain multiple tools together. The suite includes over 200 tools across five modalities: image, video, audio, PDF, and general files. It leverages local AI models for advanced tasks like background removal and transcription, with optional NVIDIA GPU acceleration for faster inference.
Who it’s for
Users who need a comprehensive set of file conversion and editing tools but require strict data privacy, as well as developers who want to integrate file processing capabilities into their own workflows via an API.
