psi-oss/get-physics-done

The first open-source agentic AI physicist, by Physical Superintelligence PBC (PSI).

What it solves

Get Physics Done (GPD) provides a structured, agentic framework for physics research, moving beyond simple chat interactions to support long-horizon projects. It helps researchers manage the entire lifecycle of a physics project: from initial scoping and planning to derivation, verification, and final manuscript packaging.

How it works

GPD is not a standalone application but a set of physics-research commands that integrate into existing AI runtimes (such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, or OpenCode). It transforms these runtimes into a research assistant that follows a rigorous scientific workflow: scoping the problem, planning the work, deriving results, verifying them, and packaging the output. It offers different autonomy modes (Supervised and Balanced) to allow researchers to act as advisors, verifying and redirecting the agent's work at various checkpoints.

Who it’s for

It is designed for physicists and researchers conducting complex numerical studies, multi-step analytical work, and manuscript writing who require scientific rigor and structured research memory over simple AI agreeability.

Highlights

  • Integrated Workflow: Supports a full research pipeline from new-project to write-paper.
  • Multi-Runtime Support: Compatible with several major AI CLI tools including Claude Code and Gemini CLI.
  • Scientific Rigor: Built to prioritize critical thinking and explicit evidence over AI hallucinations.
  • Research Memory: Provides tools for workspace recovery and resuming work via resume-work and gpd resume commands.
  • Manuscript Tooling: Includes presets and toolchains for LaTeX and paper building.
