openfilm/openfilm
The open source AI video agent: turns any coding agent into a video agent, with an editor to change anything it makes.
What it solves
OpenFilm bridges the gap between AI coding agents and video production. It allows agents to generate video content using standard web technologies, while providing a visual editor for humans to refine, trim, and adjust the output.
How it works
Films are structured as folders containing a single film.html file. This file uses standard web elements (like video, audio, and custom web pages) to define tracks on a timeline. Each shot is a web page that uses a frame(t) function to render content at any given time, allowing for the use of tools like Three.js, WebGL, or CSS. The included "Studio" editor runs in your browser, enabling you to visually move, scale, and edit elements, with changes saved back to the project files so the AI agent can maintain context.
Who it’s for
It is designed for developers who use AI coding agents (like Claude Code or Codex) and want to generate, edit, and render video content programmatically without learning complex proprietary video frameworks.
Highlights
- Web-native: Uses standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, meaning no new framework-specific languages to learn.
- Visual Editor: Includes "Studio," a local browser-based editor for manual adjustments to timing, layout, and styling.
- Agent-Friendly: Designed to be operated by AI coding agents via a CLI, allowing for iterative generation and editing.
- Robust Validation: The
lookcommand checks for rendering inconsistencies, missing assets, or layout errors to ensure high-quality output. - Flexible Export: Supports rendering to MP4, GIF, and various professional formats, including timelines for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve.
