What it is
This project contains the official documentation for Open WebUI, a self-hosted, privacy-focused, and extensible interface for interacting with large language models (LLMs) like Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible API.
What the docs cover
The documentation website includes:
- Installation & setup guides — instructions for installing via Docker, local setup, and manual installation.
- Plugin & extension documentation — how to extend the interface with plugins.
- API reference & pipeline usage — technical details for developers using Open WebUI's API and data pipelines.
- File uploads & RAG integration — guides on uploading files and connecting retrieval-based features (RAG, which stands for retrieval-augmented generation — combining stored data with AI responses).
- Developer contribution guide — a tutorial for developers who want to contribute to the project.
How the site is built
The documentation site itself is built with Docusaurus, a static site generator.
Contributing
The project welcomes contributions. Anyone interested should read the contributing tutorial, linked in the README as docs/tutorials/contributing-tutorial.md.
