nightly-labs/openbot

A local-first desktop workspace for persistent AI teammates. Run Codex, Claude, and Grok with dedicated workspaces, task queues, file sharing, browser control, and agent-to-agent collaboration.

What it solves

OpenBot provides a local-first desktop workspace designed for managing multiple persistent AI agents. It eliminates the need to switch between different AI CLI tools and interfaces by consolidating various agent providers into a single application where each agent has its own dedicated workspace, conversation history, and state.

How it works

OpenBot acts as a management layer over several AI provider runtimes. It integrates with local CLIs such as Codex, Claude Code, Grok, OpenCode, Gemini, Cursor, and Cline. The app manages independent sessions and local workspaces for each agent, providing a unified interface for interaction. It includes features like FIFO message queues for crash-safe persistence, automatic context compaction to prevent model window exhaustion, and an embedded browser that agents can control. It also supports "Computer Use" capabilities on macOS, Windows, and Linux via a dedicated driver.

Who it’s for

It is designed for developers and power users who use multiple AI coding agents or assistants and want a persistent, organized environment to manage their tasks, delegate work between agents, and maintain local control over their data.

Highlights

  • Multi-Provider Support: Integrates with Codex, Claude, Grok, OpenCode, Gemini, Cursor, and Cline.
  • Agent-to-Agent Communication: Supports messaging, replies, and reactions between agents, as well as shared desktop channel chats for task delegation.
  • Local-First Architecture: Keeps data local while connecting to provider APIs, with optional account syncing via Cloudflare Workers.
  • Integrated Tooling: Includes an embedded browser for agents to inspect and control, and a cua-driver for computer use capabilities.
  • Skill System: Allows agents to create and share reusable workflows as "skills" stored in a local library.
